With its intertwining of original craftsmanship and industrial production, Thomas Nathan’s Spot design quite literally revolves around the dot. The cylinder is used as the main body for salt and pepper shakers, which, when spotted at closely, are adorned with a subtle, handshaped dotted structure. Clear lines separate the top and lateral surfaces and highlight the proportions. With few stylistic means, Nathan succeeds in presenting a design of radical clarity, concentration and functionality that, as in Bauhaus, brings together a multitude of disciplines.
